Five (5) Hidden Ingredients

Shhhhh!  Don’t tell anyone!

When reading the ingredients on a bag of pretzels, or chips or cookies – you’re most likely to find a slew of “hidden ingredients”.  Here’s a list of ingredients from a very popular chocolate chip cookie.  Notice soybean oil, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, high fructose corn syrups – yuch!chips-ahoy-ingredients-2

Unfortunately in order to prolong shelf life, some unwanted ingredients are added. If I were baking these cookies from scratch, I would not be adding those into my recipe.

I do, however, add certain “hidden” foods into my recipes that are actually very good for you.  Here’s an example of some:

oange-rindOrange Peel is very bitter in flavor, so I hide it in my smoothies.  Orange peels are loaded with Vitamins C & A which can help you fight colds and flu.  There’s also a lot of research stating that orange peel lowers the risk of certain cancers in humans.  Read more about orange peels here at Mercola.com.

grapefruit-rind

Grapefruit Peel – the grapefruit peel actually has more fiber in it than the pulp.  Fiber makes you fuller faster and helps with elimination when constipated.  And just like it’s counterpart – the orange – grapefruit peel can also lower the risk of certain cancers.  Read more about grapefruit peels at Stylecraze.com.

matcha-tea

Matcha Powder –  Matcha Green Tea is the highest quality powdered green tea available. made from the nutrient-rich young tea leaves.  Matcha tea is LOADED with antioxidants. Enhances calm YET increases energy level and endurance.  Learn more about Matcha powder here at Matchasource.com.

fresh-tumericTurmeric – LOVE turmeric!  The color is so pretty and the health benefits are numerous.  I use it whole/RAW.  I cut 1/2″ knob off and throw it in my smoothies.  I use it to reduce the inflammation in my body.  Sometimes I peel it, but most times I just clean it under running water.. And last, but not least is:

fresh-gingerGinger.  Ginger aids in digestion and helps prevent nausea.  It’s also used to relieve muscle pain and soreness.  I usually use about  1/2″ to 1″ knob and throw it right into my smoothie.  Again, sometimes I peel, but most times I don’t.  If you have a powerful blender, I find you do not need to peel it.  Learn more about RAW ginger DrAxe.com.

So the long and short of it is when I throw all these wonderful ingredients into my smoothie which is also loaded with kale, spinach, banana, dates and fruits (strawberries, blueberries, cherries and pineapple) – you can not taste those bitter ingredients!  And the benefits are AMAZING!!

Enjoy!
